Tenex Q&A

What is Tenex?

Tenex is an advanced, extremely safe, ultrasound-guided form of tenotomy, which is the process of cutting and removing diseased portions of a tendon through a tiny, hollow needle. The Spine Center and Orthopedic Rehabilitation of Englewood, PC, doctors use Tenex to resolve and heal tendinopathies, including tennis elbow and runner’s knee. Tenex has an 80-90% success rate.

The Tenex procedure (Percutaneous Ultrasonic Tenotomy) was developed with the Mayo Clinic and alleviates pain for those that have issues with their tendon or fascia. It aims to provide the body with a second chance to heal correctly from an injury by removing diseased tissue. Diseased tissue can be the source of pain and inflammation that interferes with daily life.

Areas of the body that can be treated:

  • Rotator cuff tendons
  • Flexor and extensor tendons of the elbow (tennis elbow or golfers elbow)
  • Gluteal tendons that produce trochanteric bursitis of the hips
  • Patellar tendons
  • Achilles tendon
  • Plantar fascia
