Botox – Migraine & Spasticity
Our physicians have received training in performing botulinum toxin injections for the treatment of spasticity, intractable muscle spasm, painful conditions and migraines. Botox is an injectable form of botulinum toxin called onabotulinut toxin A and blocks the ability of a muscle to contract. This is desirable for conditions such as torticollis, stroke, and multiple sclerosis, where there is an abnormal amount of muscle spasm. Some preliminary studies have also shown that Botox can be effective in treating chronic low back and neck pain that is a result of muscular overactivity.
Botox is also approved for use in the prevention of chronic migraines in patients who have failed to respond to conservative treatment, such as medications. Please ask our doctors if you are a candidate for this treatment.
